    The greater Dinokeng area covers approximately 281 000 ha of rural land and incorporates the areas of Roodeplaat, Cullinan, Rayton and the open bushveld north of the Moloto Road in the north-west quadrant of the Gauteng Province of South Africa. The Dinokeng Big 5 Game Reserve covers an area of approximately 21 000 hectares of pristine, malaria-free bushveld within this region, and offers approximately 140 km’s of self- driving routes with picnic sites, hides and restaurants along the routes.

    The name Dinokeng is derived from the languages of the baTswana and baPedi people who traditionally inhabited the area. Meaning “a place of rivers”, Dinokeng lies in the catchment area of two rivers that flow into the Olifants and Limpopo rivers and on to the Indian Ocean. In African culture, river sources have sacred significance and their confluences are believed to hold healing powers.

    Dinokeng Game Reserve is the only Big 5 game reserve in the province of Gauteng, South Africa, and is easily accessed via the arterial N1 route. It is a 40 minutes’ drive from Pretoria or some 75 minutes from O. R. Tambo Airport in Johannesburg.
